How to be a Pokémon trainer to catch ’em all on the Pokémon Go.

This article can answer all of your questions about the basic of the Pokémon Go like how to find Pokémon, how to catch it, and etc.

First, you need to know about the Pokémon game. It had an inspiration from the Japanese anime called “Pocket Monsters”. It is about a young boy who starts his journey in the world of Pokémon and wants to be Pokémon master.

The first game from this anime was released in 1996 for the Nintendo console, but the latest one is for your IOS and Android using virtual reality (VR) that integrated it with the real world locations to send the real life player or all of us quest to catch Pokémon.

Although it has fanboys all over the world, Pokémon Go is lacking in beginner instruction. If you are a new Pokémon trainer, the next paragraph is what you should do.

The basic of Pokémon

How to find Pokémon

The first time that you start the game, you will see three starter Pokémon spawn: Bulbasaur (Grass), Charmander (Fire), and Squirtle(water). You can catch just one of them to be your first Pokémon. After you catch one, the other will disappear. To find the other Pokémon is not easy. You need to walk around outside or travel to many places to find more Pokémon.

They usually spawn in the popular areas like parks, shopping mall, and tourist attractions, but the different places that mean the different type of Pokémon. You can find the water-type Pokémon near the river or sea while the grass-type Pokémon can be found in the parks, garden or woods.

In the lower-right corner of your screen, you will see a small white bar with the dark shape of Pokémon near you in that area. You can tap this bar to check all nearby Pokémon. Then tap one of them to track. The paw prints will be appeared on the screen to show how close or far is it from you: One paw print means it closes to you , while three paw prints mean further away.

How to catch Pokémon

You have to tap Poké Balls and flick it toward the Pokémon to catch Pokémon. Each Pokémon will have a color circle; green, yellow, or red. The Green color circle means the Pokémon is easier to catch, while the red one is difficult. When you tap on the Poké Ball, the color circle will start shrinking; You should hit the Pokémon while the circle is larger to make it easier to catch and less to break free the Poké Ball.

You can catch Pokémon easier with higher level Poké Balls (you’ll unlock Great Balls at level 12) and Razz Berries, a treat that entices a Pokémon to stay. When you toss the Poké Ball, you can also get a 100-point Experience Point (XP) by spinning it.

How to run from Pokémon

You can tap the run icon in the upper left corner of the screen to run away from a Pokémon if you think that catching this Pokémon is waste your Poké Balls on a low-level or common Pokémon.

What is Stardust?

Stardust is the Combat Power (CP). It can be used on your  Pokémon power up the CP level. You can get the “Stardust” from catching Pokémon, hatching Pokémon from an egg, or by controlling a Gym.

What are Candies?

Candies are like the Stardust; using for power up the CP, but it can evolve Pokémon. You can get Candies by catching Pokémon, transferring Pokémon to “Professor Willow” (your in-game guide) or hatching Pokémon from an egg.

Transferring a Pokémon to Professor Willow is by taping the Pokémon you want to transfer, scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and tap “Transfer”. You will lose it forever , but you will get one Candy.

Candies are specific to the Pokémon that you received from. For example, “Charmander Candies” can only be used to power up the Charmander , but evolved take their unevolved-forms’ Candies; for example, “Pidgey Candies” can be used to power up and evolve Pidgey, Pidgeotto, and Pidgeot.

Level up the Pokémon or evolve the Pokémon first?

Leveling up the Pokémon usually takes just 1 or 2 Candies and some Stardust, while evolving the Pokémon takes anywhere from 12 to 400 Candies. Evolved forms of Pokémon takes their unevolved forms’ Candy and have higher all-around stats. You’ll get better results if you evolve the Pokémon before leveling them up.

How high can the Pokémon’s CP get?

Opening the Pokémon’s profile screen, you will see your Pokémon’s CP. The maximum CP will show at the arc above your Pokémon. Pokémon’s maximum CP depends on their type and your level. When you level up, your Pokémon’s maximum CP will also increase.

How to rename your Pokémon?

Open your Pokémon’s profile screen and tap its name to rename it whatever you want to.

How to hatch an egg?

You can get eggs from PokéStops. Eggs come in three distance types: 2km, 5km, and 10km.

You can find your eggs by opening the Pokémon screen and tap the Eggs tab at the top of the screen.

Hatching an egg by putting it in an incubator (to do the incubator by tapping the egg you want to incubate and tapping Start Incubation) ,then walk 2 kilometers, 5 kilometers, or 10 kilometers depend on your egg type.

You must open the app while you are walking to hatch the eggs. Step-counting stops working over certain speeds, so traveling in a car or riding a bike will not count.

 

 

 

 

Catch Pokémon’s in a car.

Everyone can catch Pokémon in a car, but must not while you are driving because it may cause an accident. The Pokémon will stay in your view long enough to catch when you are in the bus or moving vehicle. You can also grab items from PokéStops if the moving vehicle passes that place if you select them and start spinning them quickly before you reach them.

PokéStops will be refreshed and will give you more items every 5 minutes.

Items

  • Poké Ball: Used for catching Pokémon by tossing it at Pokémon you meet.
  • Great Ball: (Unlocks at level 12) A higher rate of capture used for catching hard-to-get Pokémon.
  • Ultra Ball: (Unlocks at level 20) A higher rate of capture than a Great Ball used for catching more hard-to-get Pokémon.
  • Master Ball: (Unlocks at a higher *currently unknown* level) Used for catching Pokémon every time. (you can keep it to catch the rare Pokémon)
  • Incubators: Used for incubating and hatching eggs. You can use multiple incubators at once to incubate and hatch multiple eggs.
  • Egg: Containing the Pokémon. You need to put an egg in an incubator and walk a certain distance it to hatch.
  • Lucky Egg: Doubles your XP for 30 minutes. Used a Lucky Egg in an area where you are likely to meet a lot of Pokémon or before you are about to evolve several Pokémon (evolving nets you 500XP).
  • Incense: Attracts Pokémon to your location for 30 minutes. Works best if you are moving.
  • Lure Module: Used to pin a PokéStop to attract Pokémon to that location for 30 minutes. Works for everyone near the PokéStop.
  • Potion: Restore 20 Hit Points (HP) to Pokémon injured in gym battles before it fainted.
  • Super Potion: Restore 50HP to Pokémon injured in gym battles before it fainted.
  • Revive: Revives a fainted Pokémon and restores half HP.

Pink stuff around a PokéStop

It is a lure module that someone has pinned at the PokéStop to attract Pokémon to that location for 30 minutes. Everyone near that PokéStop will gain the benefit (unlike incense)

If you have a lure module in your inventory, you can place this module in the module slot. Taping the PokéStop and tap the white bar underneath the PokéStop’s name to place the lure module.

No Pokémon/PokéStops/Gyms

Pokémon Go is rely on landmarks and points of interest. If you live in a small town, you may not see a lot of Pokémon, PokéStops, or Gyms near you.

 

 

 

Gyms

What is Gyms?

Gyms are the place you can battle with other players’ Pokémon for control, pride, and free PokéCoins. You can visit gyms when you are level 5 and have chosen a team.

What is a team?

You have to choose a team when you get to level 5. Once you pick a team, your job is to fight for control of the Pokémon Gyms around your city. You can battle with the other players’ Pokémon who controls the gym for dominance. If you control a gym (you don’t necessarily have to be the gym leader) ,you will get *PokéCoins and Stardust for defending reward once a day.

* PokéCoins can be used to purchase items in the Shop.

There are three teams: Team Instinct (yellow), Team Mystic (blue), and Team Valor (red). You can choose whatever team you want. If you want to own the gyms with your friends, you need to choose the same team with your friends

How to claim a gym

To claim an empty gym, you have to assign one of your Pokémon to defend it by selecting the gym on your map and tap the assign button in the lower left corner.

You can’t claim the occupied gym. You have to battle for dominance with the currently defender. You can take six Pokémon with you into battle. Every time you win a battle, the gym’s prestige will lower. The gym will open up and you can assign a Pokémon to defend it when the gym’s prestige is at 0.

What is gym prestige?

Gym power is determined by prestige, the harder it is for an opposing team to win or take over it. Every time the gym’s defenders win a battle, the gym’s prestige level gets higher.

Gym prestige can be increased if the team members train their Pokémon at the gym. If the gym’s prestige gets higher, more defense slots will open up and allow more team members to assign their Pokémon to defend the gym. (You can only assign one Pokémon to the gym.)

Higher-level gyms will show more slots (Level 6 = 6 defending Pokémon). When the gym level up, the maximum prestige level also increases by the gym Level 1 has a 2,000 maximum prestige level, but the gym level 3 has a 8,000 maximum prestige level.

How does battling work?

If you want to battle to the opposite gym, you can battle by walk to the gym, tap it, and tap the battle button in the lower right corner. You can manage your Pokémon order by tapping them. Some Pokémon types have advantages against others. For example, a Fire Pokémon is super effective when battling with an Ice Pokémon.

After you managed your Pokémon, tap “Go” to enter the battle. You have three moves at your action: Standard attack, special attack, and dodge. You can perform the Standard attack by tapping your enemy. You can swipe to the right or the left to dodge. If you’ve performed enough standard attacks to charge your special attack (you can check this by the blue bars under your name) , tap and hold the enemy  to perform your special attack. You can do special attack multiple times , if you have multiple blue bars.

Why is this enemy Pokémon impossible to beat?

It is a bug. You can do it by shutting down the app and reopen it. You will have to restart the fight, but all of your Pokémon will be restored to full health.

What happens when my Pokémon get injured or faint?

You can restore your injured Pokémon by using Potions and Super Potions, but if your Pokémon is fainted, you need to revive them with a Revive.

* You cannot use items during a battle.

How to train my Pokémon at a friendly gym

You can train your Pokémon at the gym owned by your team by battle the defending Pokémon. You have to walk to the gym, select it, and tap the train icon in the lower right corner.

*You can only take one Pokémon into battle when you train.

Every time you win a training battle, that gym’s prestige increases. If you lose a training, its prestige is not affected.

How to drop Pokémon at a friendly gym

You can drop one of your Pokémon there to help defend the gym if you encounter it with an empty slot. You can do it by walk to the gym, tap it, and tap the assign button in the lower left corner. When you drop a Pokémon at a defending gym, you can not level it up or evolve it until it’s defeated and comes back to you.

 

 

What do I get for being a gym leader?

If you are a gym leader or a gym defender, you will get “Stardust” and “PokéCoins” every 21 hours. You can get these benefits by going to the PokéShop and tapping the shield icon in the upper right corner. The highest CP Pokémon defending a gym determines the gym leader.
